Dog Training & Behavior Modification

What is (R+) Positive Reinforcement Dog Training and when or how do I know if my dog needs Behavior Modification training? Check out this page to understand what you may be experiencing with your dog and how to approach dealing with it.

Positive Reinforcement (R+) Dog Training 101

Positive Reinforcement is a method of dog training that utilizes what the dog in front of you, values, this can be food, toys, distractions, a crunchy water bottle, anything! In this course you will understand the true meaning of R+ from the DOG'S POV (point of view) to better understand dog psychology and impulse drive, (especially pertaining to the breed you have-which we can chat about if you sign up for lessons with the trainer). We can also teach the dog how to NOT do certain things by taking access of those values away and being in control of what impulses your dog gets to act on and what they get to be rewarded with and what opportunities get to be taken away if they cant comply!

This course is taught ONLINE (with personalized training sessions online with the trainer) or IN PERSON, you may choose your option on the program page.

What this class is not: this is not education about heavy punishments, forceful training or Alpha mode. We will talk about the difference between R+ dog training and Traditional Dog training and how you can out-smart you dog rather than overpower them!

When the naughty behavior is a bit more than unwanted, its becoming potentially unsafe, or is aggressive. Lets take a look

  • Barrier Frustration: leash lunging, barking or growling at fences, behind windows etc

  • Resource Guarding: "DO NOT touch my (food, treats, toys, bed, person, myself or anything I choose is my resource) or else I will bite you or threaten to." said the dog

  • Redirected Aggression: "im feeling very overstimulated or frustrated and whoever is next to me is gonna get it!" biting or aggressive behavior that gets redirected to whoever/whatever is the closest thing, sometimes including the handler (you!)

  • Separation Anxiety: "When you leave, I loose my mind.." said the dog. This is a spectrum that can go from mild whining and pacing, to obsessive barking, to full on destruction and the dog putting itself in danger to try and get to the thing they are "separated from"
